Living in Todi · ~400 m above sea level
Living in Umbria begins in Todi.
A hilltop overlooking the Tiber valley, pale stone and clear air. Todi is a town to live in all year round: small enough to know it, close enough to give up nothing.
The town
A medieval town you can take in over a day
From the top of the hill, some four hundred metres above sea level, Todi holds centuries of history within a few steps: the square, the town halls, the churches. You move on foot, and every corner has a story to tell.
Palazzo del Popolo
On the main square, one of the oldest town halls in Italy: battlements, a grand staircase and the pale stone that sets the tone for the whole centre.
Temple of San Fortunato
The great Gothic church at the top of the climb, with its carved portal and, in the crypt, the tomb of Jacopone da Todi.
Santa Maria della Consolazione
Just outside the walls, the central-plan church in the Bramante tradition: dome and apses in perfect balance, one of the masterpieces of the Umbrian Renaissance.
